Sultry Mediterranean City - Barcelona's Gaixample

Morning rush hour from 9:30 Streamyx Zone 10:30--late lunch with cocktails and wine followed by an afternoon siesta--dinner at about 11pm and partying in the bars or night clubs until 3am, it all sounds like a wonderful gay lifestyle. But actually it's everyday life for most of the 1.5 million residents of Barcelona and probably accounts for the permanent smiles on their faces plus their collective aura of happiness. Likely it's the reason why Europe's GLBT community is flocking to Barcelona creating the new mediterranean gay riviera.

Ideally situated on the northeastern coast of the Iberian peninsula and the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population. It is also the capital of Catalonia, one of the seventeen autonomous communities that comprise Spain. The first language is Catalan and the second is Spanish-with many locals also speaking English--for a truly trilingual region. The documented history of the city dates back to the founding of Barcino a Roman colony in the second century B.C.

With the Collserola mountains to the northwest and the sea to the south, the city is encompassed by breathtaking vistas. Boasting a mild mediterranean climate with a year-round average temperature of 19 degrees celsius, sandy beaches plus some of the most visually stunning and fascinating architecture in Europe, it's easy to understand why the gay traveller is discovering Barcelona and claiming it as their own mecca.

At the very heart of the city is Ciutat Vella---old town---with vestiges of the original Barcino, presently known as the gothic quarter. This is the historic, religious and political centre of the city surrounding the cathedral, a gothic church built in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The interior chapels, magnificent choir stalls, ancient organ and the crypts are amazing examples from another era. There is an elevator to the roof for a stunning view of the city. The cathedral's cloister surrounded by smaller chapels has a certain kind of magic, with its central garden of magnolias and palm trees, where thirteen geese make their home. streamyx bandwidth you can experience an eerie peace and tranquility in the heart of a pulsing city.

An unhurried stroll through the pedestrian streets of the old town is indispensable to appreciate Barcelona's history and to experience some of the oldest buildings, stores and squares, often enlivened by musicians, artists, actors and fairs or flea markets. The narrow, cobbled streets, cafes, restaurants, shops and historic buildings can easily occupy an entire day of strolling, shopping, dining and generally enjoying a leisurely step back in time.

Adjacent to and part of the gothic quarter is La Rambla, the famous pedestrian street and colorful boulevard zig-zagging through the old town like a verdant lifeline. This links the centrally located Plaza de Catalunya to the harbor and encompasses the Columbus monument at the waterfront. La Rambla is like an animated street theatre with a kaleidoscope of curious characters, street performers, market stalls and of course outdoor cafes offering tapas and cocktails. It's a people watcher's paradise and microcosm of never-ending activity at any hour of the day or night. The boulevard is comprised of many streets blended into one thoroughfare and is often referred to in the plural Las Ramblas. It is an experience to be enjoyed where time stands still as you imbibe in the surroundings, especially on a sunday afternoon when much of Barcelona is closed in observance of the sabbath.

At the northern end of Las Ramblas and to the west is the area known as Eixample which is now the central area of Barcelona. This urban expansion of the city began in the last half of the nineteenth century with the demolition of the medieval walls which had been suffocating the old city and constraining it within the walls. This enabled vast urban reform and the real expansion of Barcelona. Here you will find, not surprisingly, Gaixample the area which became home to the largest number of GLBT bars, bookstores, saunas, cafes, shops, hotels and residences. Whenever a city grows it seems as though the gay community is the first to establish their roots.

The Gaycelona visitor map and guide published by lists over one hundred gay or gay-friendly businesses most of which are located in Gaixample or close by. This provides one of the most vibrant gay villages you are likely to find anywhere in Europe. With the chic bars, elegant restaurants, cosy cafes, saunas, the extreme leather clubs plus sex clubs and everything in between, the gay scene in Barcelona attracts GLBT tourists from all over the world seeking to experience this liberated equality.

Within Gaixample there are best internet security 2009 excellent places to stay in the heart of all the action. There are many other choices close by but here in close proximity you can experience gay Barcelona to the fullest.

The Axel Hotel is a luxury-- hetero-friendly-- gay hotel which is part of the world's first chain of gay hotels. Here you can pamper yourself and be waited upon by a caring gay staff dedicated to making your vacation perfectly gay in every way. The rooftop lounge area contains a pool, hot tub, fitness room and bar creating the perfect sanctuary in the heart of the city with a view of barcelona second to none.

At Hostal Absolut Centro the rooms are more modest and the facilities are sparse but the price and location are perfect for the budget conscious traveller. This is a good location to enjoy all the gay offerings within walking distance and not have to worry about taxis or public transit. Hostal is a general term used to describe a basic European hotel that provides a no-frills bedroom and just like the no-frills airlines it's a basic service but adequate for a good holiday.

Throughout Barcelona there are plenty of different gay or gay-friendly accommodations to choose from but due to the city's popularity advance planning is absolutely necessary to ensure your holiday home is exactly what you're seeking at the right price. Last minute planning may result in expensive hotel rooms leaving less fun money in your pocket.

As you begin to explore this city you will observe the influence of famous Spanish artists like Picasso and Salvador Dali but certainly the most distinctive mark on the city was made by local architect Antoni Gaudi. Considered by many to be the genius of modernism---the Spanish equivalent to France's art nouveau---the truth is Gaudi represents a separate artistic talent and is in a class by himself. When you turn a corner and encounter your first Gaudi building it is guaranteed to stop you in your tracks. It will be a truly unique visual experience and you will find yourself instantly mesmorised.

His works were numerous including his famous Casa Vicens, Finca Guell, Palau Guell, Collegi de les Teresianes, Cas Calvet, Casa Batilo---today a must-see museum---and Casa Mila, just to name a few. His Basilica of the Holy Family is undoubtably his masterpiece to which he devoted over forty years of his life from 1883 to his untimely death in 1926. Today it is Barcelona's most visited attraction, the city's most famous landmark and yet it is still under construction. He designed Guell Park as a residential English-style garden city with his own distinctive style which leaves every visitor stunned by his architectonic elements. The park is in the hills high above the city with wonderful views and surprises around every corner making for a perfect day trip to escape the bustle of the city.

The dictionary definition of the word 'gaudy' is 'extravagantly or tastelessly bright or showy' and you have to wonder which came first---the architect or the word? Either way it's uniquely Catalonian and memorable.

With all the history, architecture, galleries and museums to enjoy you might think that Barcelona is an urban vacation experience but that would be the wrong impression. In preparation for the 1992 Olympic summer games the Barcelona waterfront underwent a major rejuvenation program which included the restoration of four kilometers of city beaches. This includes two gay areas where clothing is optional at Platja de la Marbella and Moll de sant Bertran. Trust the gay community to claim their own perfect spaces to chill out and enjoy the warm mediterranean waters amidst the excitement of the city.

Finding your way around and traversing the city is easy with the convenient metro and bus system. Economical passes for unrestricted transit access can be purchased for various durations to suit the length of your stay. There is also a Barcelona card which features free travel on public transportation plus admission to galleries and museums or discounts at stores and restaurants. The airport is also well served by an express bus or train to the city centre, both at a one-way cost of less than five Canadian dollars. The Barcelona Bus Turistic is an excellent way to visit the major attractions throughout the city and a day pass allows you unlimited travel on three different routes getting on and off to suit your own schedule.

Amazingly with the size of the city and heavy traffic volumes all of these forms of public transit run to a very exact schedule and frequency meant never having to wait more than a few minutes for any mode of transport.

For the adventurous it is also possible to rent a motor scooter which is obviously the transportation mode of choice for the local residents and it seems as though everyone owns a scooter. They're easy to park, economical on gas and can be easily maneuvered through the heavy traffic. The less ambitious can rent a bicycle for more energetic mobility. Of course walking around town is a very pleasurable way to see all the sights without distractions. Barcelona is a city of approximately one hundred square kilometers Tmnet Online Guard twenty percent of which is parks and gardens making for a very pleasant environment to discover whichever mode of transport you choose.

Enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the sea, either on a sailboat or a catamaran, and Barcelona's skyline reveals itself with the mountains as a backdrop. Either option is available with frequent schedules by day or night from the main port area.

If the city and beaches are not enough to make your vacation perfect, then several day trips into the surrounding countryside are readily available. The Montserrat Winery, Dali's City and Girona or the beaches at Castelldefels are perfect day trips with fascinating or relaxing agendas to afford a break from the urban life. However, the best day trip, or even for a few days, is a trip to the gay seaside resort town of Sitges just forty kilometers from Barcelona with convenient train service every thirty minutes from the city centre.

Barcelona offers diverse holiday pastimes and the local residents are happy to welcome every gay traveller. Prepare yourself for some leisurely days, long lingering lunches, afternoon siestas, late dinners and fun nightlife-could there possibly be a more gay vacation?

England dominates Champions League prize money

MILAN, Sept 14 ?English soccer clubs pocketed an average of 160 million euros (RM 814 million) each in prize money in the last six Champions League seasons, almost four times as much as the Spanish figure, a study showed today.

In a report released only to Reuters Broadband Deal Italy, sports business consultancy StageUp estimated European soccer's governing body UEFA distributed more than 3 billion euros to 70 clubs competing in the world's most lucrative club soccer tournament over the last six years.

But this fortune was not awarded in equal parts.

Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, was right. It begins here. Most of societys ills and problems stem from the lack of respect. Thats quite a statement. Lack of respect for-

?God,

?authority,

?community,

?self

God:

When we lose respect for God, we feel that we can do anything without God. We begin to second-guess God in our ability to understand the mysteries of our faith or the universe. We begin to distance God as somehow not involved and only watching from a distance?or no longer a factor. And yet there are many things that civilized?modern man has been able to accomplish seemingly without Gods help. Dont be fooled.

Just when you think you dont need God is exactly the time you need to stop and reflect on all that is made possible because of Gods love for man. And remember that Gods ways are not mans ways. We fail to recognize Gods ways when we think we can explain all thats around us in human terms.? Some physicists talk about the Big Bang Theory?of how our solar system and universe were formed. Yeah, right. So explain to me the origin of the following:

?The splendor of the seasons; not even close to a broadband connections bang.

?The power & might of the oceans?tides

?The electro-magnetic field around the Earth

?The fact that the same side of the moon always faces the Earth

?The miracle of life itself, in all its forms

?The migration of butterflies, birds and animals

?The ozone layer

?Genes & DNA

?One lone leaf falling in the late autumn of 1997 (read on)

?And yes, the limitless innovative power of the human mind, the best computer ever invented?/p>

We are talking about order in the world around us and big bangs?like a popped firecracker surely dont explain these events to my satisfaction. Only God can; so I best believe that there is a God and leave it at that. And by the way, the same God or power that most of the worlds?religions believe in.

Remember to give thanks to God for everything that happens to you- good, bad or indifferent. Thank you God. We cannot always explain or justify events in our lives. Why me? Why my best friend? Why my family? We dont know. God knows why. Still give thanks to God for His Love is everlasting.

Prayer is the most powerful force on this earth. Try it. It works. Prayer is talking to God, not necessarily with formal repetitious prayers or only at prescribed times or in certain official buildings. Its talking to God when you hope He is listening- in your car, in your walk in the park, at work, and yes even from jail or a hospital bed.?/p>

Many religious fanatics and terrorists (sounds like an oxymoron- religious terrorist) preach & practice destroying peoples of other faiths, and if they die in the process they achieve martyrdom.? Surely a God of love would not promote or encourage this type of behavior.

Authority:

When we lose respect for civil authority we lose respect for our society. True. Many of our politicians (and some of our prejudiced police that abuse their authority) dont deserve much of our respect, much less our vote.

What is a family without respect for parents, especially single parents?

What is a school without respect for teachers and school administrators? When that happens you can forget quality education no matter how much money you throw at the problems. Who needs the Internet and computers in every classroom when kids cant even read and do simple arithmetic?

Community:

He who spares the guilty threatens the innocent. -Legal maxim

What is a community without respect for the police? Its called a gang- infested slum. Its called a haven for drug addicts and drug pushers fighting over turf. Its called parents that have given up disciplining their kids. Kids go astray when they purposely deface their own neighborhoods with spray paint graffiti reminding me that they are a couple of notches below the genuine sense of purpose exhibited by wild animals marking their territories with urine.

Self:

If you dont respect yourself, aint nobody gonna give a good cahoot.?BR>
-The Staple Singers

What are we as citizens of this great country if we lose respect for self? What does it say about our self-respect if a mother with child reports to an abortion clinic to remove an unborn baby from her uterus with no more remorse than removing an appendix or a wart? If our goal is be more Christ-like each day, what are we doing piercing every dangling piece of body flesh and tattooing every other part that doesnt dangle?

Our consumer-based commercial society has taught us how to accept slow death?as a way of life. Everyday we practice dying slowly voluntarily with double the pleasure and double the fun through eating disorders, a disregard for a healthy life style and exercise, cigarette smoking, alcoholism, and drug addictions.

We choose to have an illegal drug problem because our society tolerates it and our politicians, up to now, wont enact the tougher laws that would put an end to illegal drug activity. I remember during my travels one day on our planes approach to the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia international airport the flight attendant comes over the loudspeaker, Welcome to Malaysiathe penalty for dealing in illegal drugs is death. Have a nice day.? An unsettling silence comes over the main cabin. Imagine if that same announcement was made as planes landed in the United States one year from now? Would it curb the drug trade? Yes. Would it have an impact on street violence? Yes. Would a mother and father become more involved in keeping their kids drug free? Yes. So whats stopping us? Whos stopping us? US!

When we put to death innocent lives still unborn, we are committing the worst atrocity known to man. A mother who has an innocent life aborted while it is still growing inside her womb, in my opinion, is committing the gravest of atrocities against another human being.

When young people commit suicide, they are closing their lives off to Gods love. As I heard a country singer say once, When you commit suicide, you are playing God. Hell take you when Hes good & ready, but not any earlier. You see, a place has to be built for you in Heaven, and if you get there before God calls you, you may have to wait outside those Pearly Gates for a long, long time because you do not have a reservation.?/p>

Respect means treating others the way you want to be internet provider It means being considerate of others or showing deference to them by respecting their wishes, opinions or desires. Respect helps keep the peace. But at the same time, it doesnt mean giving in to something we know is wrong. Respect means treating others with civility, courtesy and dignity instead of ridiculing, embarrassing or hurting others, even if they themselves dont respect themselves.

Respect means being more accepting of differences. Again it doesnt mean giving in to wrong behavior, but it gives us an opportunity to discuss issues and differences of opinion without violence. Respect yourself. Be good to yourself. You deserve it.

Each of us matters to God.

Understanding Satellite Internet Technology

As happened with satellite TV services, the average customer imagines that a satellite tmnet streamyx connection will be too complicated or too slow to make it worth the purchase. However, the reality is that, just like with satellite TV, a satellite connection to the net is quick, hassle-free, and entirely reliable. What's more, it's available absolutely everywhere, which means that communities that previously had to rely on dial-up, snail-like connections because no cable company comes within 100 miles of their location can now enjoy perfectly rapid download and upload speeds.

There are several different types of service offered by satellite broadband providers: light users will probably be best off with Tm Mail a minimal package, usually with download speeds at around 700kbps, whereas heavy users will probably subscribe to one of the more comprehensive, Adsl Cable services, which can streamyx access download speeds of between 3-5Mbps...pretty impressive! The service can be ordered over the phone or via the internet itself, and is compatible with most common operating systems, and furthermore has network capability included, so that you can get several PCs connected to the internet with only installing one dish on your roof.

Though in certain parts of the world self-installation is encouraged, in the US it is common for providers to insist on professional installation in order to receive whatever guarantees are being offered with the service. It is typical for installation to be offered within one or two weeks from the moment you make the order, and installers will verify the proper functioning of your Webmailtm Net before leaving. That's nice to know for a lot of folks, who fear having to confirm such details on their own.

Two-way satellite internet connections have become common recently, whereas before connecting to the internet via a satellite dish was a strictly one-way affair. This means that today, you can realize downloads as well as uploads through your dish and the "bird" way Streamyx Hotline there in the sky, whereas previously only downloads were conducted via satellite, and uploads were sent through your phone line. This means that the service is that much more comprehensive today compared to yesterday!

You can get a satellite connection for your PC even if you don't have an Ethernet NIC (Network Interface Card), as you'll be able to use a USB adapter to connect. Though it's not that difficult to get an NIC installed on a computer, many people prefer the simplicity of the USB adapter and avoid opening up their PC, especially if they have to do so themselves (for lack of service guarantees on their PC).

There are a ton of benefits to getting this great service, but the two most obvious ones happen to also be the best: you can get your satellite internet broadband connection from anywhere, and you can kiss slow download speeds via dial-up goodbye! This has really drawn a lot of folks' attention, and the trend toward satellite connections to the web seems to only be on the rise. Make sure you're getting the best service available, now!

HughesNet helps you connect to the internet at speeds as much as 50 times faster than dial up internet service. Compare HughesNet to dial up and you'll see just how much easier your life can be!

Hey -- this one makes sense, so we shouldn't be too surprised, but it turns out that Time, Inc. is seriously looking into getting into the e-reader business, according to a leaked presentation from June of this year. The slides, which are entitled "New Platforms & Business Models for Publishers," also contained notes which had been updated as late as this past August, indicating that Time has plans to launch a product as soon as the end of this year. Though Time had said back in March that it had "no interest" in getting into the e-reader biz, it's not terribly shocking to hear that they were either fibbing or changed their minds, considering how the market's been heating up lately, combined with the deaths of many, many print mags. NBC contacted Dawn Bridges -- a spokesperson for Time -- about the story, who said the company is "speaking with a number of hardware and software companies as well as other content companies about various projects." Vague enough for you?

It does have built in wi-fi as standard which is a great advantage and prevents all those trailing wires.

The best feature is the new controller which is shaped like a TV remote control. The controller has motion control which means that it has built in accelerometers which sense when you punch, strike, wave, bowl, shake etc. This makes it truly interactive and a real fun console for everyone. The excellent price is a definite advantage and the unique features of interactivity makes it a real winner and this is reflected in the sales figures. Okay, so Facebook Punk'd us. This isn't really going live for everyone ?just for the lucky few members of the TechCrunch network.Wow, talk about a big day for Facebook. Hours after launching Facebook Lite, open-sourcing part of FriendFeed's code, and launching @ tagging, the site has one more release in store for today: Fax This Photo, powered by efax.com. Now when you're looking through photo albums, you'll have the opportunity to send a photo you like to a friend's fax machine. For price of $1.50 per photo. That's one pricey fax.Maybe I'm missing something here, but I'm not sure why Facebook would do this. For one, faxes aren't known for offering great quality ?if you want to print a photo, you probably aren't going to rely on your Fax machine. Second, if you have someone's fax number, there's a good chance you have their Email address too ?why not just send it over Email?

Champions League news from Football.co.uk

The latest headlines Tmnet Webmail articles from the world of football.

It's pretty much widely known by all Internet marketers that one of the best ways to generate leads is by giving away free content. Like ebooks, audio lessons, video lessons, and things of that nature.

But one thing that is starting to happen is, these things are losing their power.

In Tm Broadband I wireless broadband modem been hearing for years now web design ecommerce solution giving away free reports and content broadband line exchange for someone giving you their email address isn't quite as powerful as it used to be.

At least, that is what is seems like.

The truth is, giving away freebies to generate leads port klang malaysia only works, but works as well as ever before -- as long as you do it the right way.

What is the right way?

The answer is simple:

Instead of doing what most other people do -- which is to give away things everyone else is giving away, and that people already have ten copies of -- you give away unique gifts they can't get anywhere else.

In other words, if someone can get your freebie from anyone rcn internet don't use it. Instead use your own proprietary content. Content that has real value to it and that people would actually be willing to pay money for on its own.

If you don't have anything to give away, simply call an expert, record the call and turn that into unique content. You can have an audio file and written transcripts -- true value.

Whatever you do just know that, in reality, nothing has changed.

People still love free things. The problem is nobody wants two copies of something they already have.

And if youre creative with what you give away -- if you use some real strategy -- it will work for you like gangbusters.

There is a Toys and Childhood gallery, with hands-on toys and a puppet theatre, and there are often events, activities and demonstrations, many of them specifically for children. Another good reason to make the Folk Museum a priority is that it's absolutely free!
  • Sometimes it's fun to go somewhere really unusual, so how about being able to tell your friends that you've seen the tallest fountain in Britain? Opened on 5th June, 2004, the single-jet fountain at Stantway House rises to 300 feet or more, and is a sight that can't fail to impress all the family.
